A customer review of our team

We held a series of 6 open day events in early 2023 for customers and industry

Each of the 6 sessions was dedicated to lifting the lid on what we do and why. We wanted customers we are already working with, potential customers and industry partners to have the opportunity to meet the whole team, to learn more about what we’re doing, how we work and how that is helpful to them and we wanted to enable them to ask questions to establish exactly how we can help them build great homes.

The weather was not kind and we had to face everything from -4 degree temperatures and thick frost with sunshine to thick fog and horrific traffic. In spite of the logistical challenges the sessions were busy and we are very grateful for the dedication of everyone who were able to brave the elements to come.

Focus of the sessions

The Kiss House team was well prepared and motivated by the opportunity to meet new and existing customers, plus industry colleagues. Keen to show them examples of what we have been constructing, creating and designing we planned a full itinerary for each session. The 4 customer sessions focussed on the Kiss House team’s background and skills and how we work on self-build projects. We spoke about how we work with our customers to design their homes, apply for planning, and the process of a Kiss House project. We shared a case study to take guests through the stages of a project and discussed different potential outcomes and events along the way. We then gave an overview of our R&D activities particularly our building system. Throughout we discussed the benefit to customers of working the way we do especially our focus on streamlining and simplifying the process of self-building a high quality,  Passivhaus, Kiss House home, and how our process removes as much uncertainty as possible.

During our industry sessions our focus was more on our R&D activities. In these sessions Mike Jacob gave an overview of our proprietary building system and steel and concrete free ground floor system, as well as our enhanced natural fibre insulation product — all patent pending. He also covered how we work with developers, architects, housebuilders and landowners.

Throughout all the sessions we actively invited questions and discussion.

Presentations and tours

The first part of each session was two short and informative presentations by our founders, MD Carli Jordan and Director of Product and Innovation Mike Jacob. Carli and Mike introduced the itinerary before providing the background to Kiss House and how we work. Mike then introduced our R&D projects (as above).

Small groups of visitors were then gathered and guided on a tour which included stops at various stations around the site. Each group was led by members of our team — a tour guide and tour guide support. All of the tours took the same route and stopped at a series of stations where the tour guide discussed a particular element of our work. Having introduced how we work during the presentations this gave the opportunity for guests to see for themselves, and get close to building components and materials.

The tours provided an opportunity to see Kiss House home components being manufactured, plus the team, tools and materials in action. Guests were invited to ask questions along the way.

Towards the end of the tours guests visited our Futurebuild and Off-site Expo exhibition set-up — a full sized section of a home complete with internal and external finishes, plus a roof cassette with solar PV. Finally we had interior mood boards and material samples laid out for guests to look at finishes prior to ending with a Q&A for anyone with additional questions.

Thanks to all

The sessions provided us with a wonderful opportunity to meet customers and industry colleagues en-masse and to share ideas and project plans.

We are very grateful to all who came and the hard work of our team.

If you weren’t able to come we hope to see you in the future — subscribe to our news to receive event info.

“"Best day out in a long time!"”
